When its first season began, all positions were open, and left the best players. Approximately 50 turned out. Cuts left players for Varsity and JV. Only three players from Peninsula's team last year have returned.

Mr. Wiley was optimistic about developing some good players and plans to set up a solid baseball program for Gig Harbor this year. Mr. Tom Croppi coached the eighth-grade players.
Baseball season opened for the first time with Head Coach Jay Wiley and Assistant Coach Kevin Mille.

The first year of soccer will always be one to remember. The team was coached by Will Ellwanger, and consisted of six juniors, two sophomores, and thirteen freshmen, and one eighth grader, who all did a fine job showing their competitiveness and spirit out on the field. Their record for the year was one win, nine losses, and two ties.

When the end was near and thoughts of next year were already in mind, good news fired up their spirit. Due to two teams being unable to play, the GHHS girls' soccer was invited to the Bellevue Christian Invitational tournament. They needed two wins for first place. They ended up playing against Seattle Christian on their first game which they tied and into overtime, they won 5-3. Their second game was against Peninsula HS. It was friends against fighters on the field as both schools vied for the first-place trophy. Gig Harbor fought so hard to prove themselves but was defeated, 6-1.

It was definitely a memorable first season and hopes are high for another season next year.

Gig Harbor High School girls swim team started their first year filled with a lot of ambition. They finished 12th in the district, winning only one meet over Moses Lake.

Coach Pat Mahaffie hopes that next year, the girls will do better. He also hoped for more girls to join.
Determination + Hardwork + Enthusiasm was the driving force for the Gig Harbor high school's first softball team. These athletically inclined girls showed tremendous ability and effort at pitching, fielding, hitting, and team sportsmanship.

Coach Paul Berg kept the team going no matter what the odds were. Neither rain nor cold weather kept these skilled Tides from practicing every day.
